The star domain trembled, filled with thunderous booms one after another.
Upon closer inspection, it was a series of colossal gates piercing the heavens, entirely black and etched with demonic patterns that gleamed with a sinister light. These were the imperial transmission gates of the Tianmo, from which countless Tianmo surged forth, spreading out across the stars to slaughter the beings of the myriad realms.
War!
Roars and howls echoed through the heavens as the Tianmo invasion sparked a united front across the ten thousand domains. Armies of cultivators charged from the depths of the stars, joining the fierce battle.
The Tianmo were overwhelmingly powerful, like killing gods from hell. Wherever they went, a star domain was doomed to destruction, routing the cultivators of the heavens at every turn.
In the vast starry expanse, armies of cultivators thundered past, rushing toward distant battlefields.
Gazing into the distance, one could see the war banners of Da Chu fluttering fiercely in the wind.
These were the cultivators of Da Chu, led by Tianlao and Dilao, marching out from Da Chu to aid the battle in Wangxuan Star Domain.
Meanwhile, Da Chu itself was guarded by its own armies, for the gateway to the heavens could not be lost.
As they traveled through a silent stretch of star space, Tianlao suddenly halted, his old eyes narrowing into slits as he stared intently ahead. There, an imperial domain gate had appeared, towering and massive, pitch-black with strands of demonic energy cascading down, covered in demonic patterns. No doubt, it was a Tianmo transmission gate.
"Form the array," Dilao ordered without hesitation, waving the command flag.
At his command, the cultivator formations spread out across the stars, filling the void. Mighty artifacts soared into the sky, radiating immortal light like brilliant stars; ancient arrays awakened, converging their devastating divine power, with all forces reaching their peak in an instant.
With a deep hum, the domain gate opened wide, and Tianmo poured out in a frenzy, licking their blood-red tongues, baring their sharp white teeth, and flashing crimson eyes like grotesque demons.
"Attack for me!" Tianlao roared, as tens of thousands of killing arrays unleashed beams of immortal light.
The first wave of emerging Tianmo changed color abruptly, caught off guard and decimated before they could retreat to the gate—it was too late. They were obliterated in droves; Da Chu's killing arrays were no ordinary force. Wave after wave of Tianmo surged out, only to be blasted apart. Who could they blame? Of all the star spaces, they had to choose this one, unluckily running straight into Da Chu's cultivators.
The Tianmo roared in fury, no longer daring to show themselves, hiding within the domain gate. With everyone targeting the gate's exit, who would dare step out? Even Tianmo generals at the quasi-emperor level hesitated to emerge.
To put it bluntly, any who stepped out would be vaporized by the arrays in the next instant. They were Tianmo, yes, but they still had their wits about them—no one was foolish enough to charge into the line of fire.
The Tianmo's angry cries shook the starry vault, while Da Chu's forces were exhilarated, each one howling loudly. They struck at any who emerged and bombarded the gate even if none did, burning source stones without a second thought, fighting with reckless abandon and no regard for cost.
Unfortunately, this was an imperial-level domain gate, reinforced by imperial laws. Without imperial weapons, even the most supreme emperor artifacts would struggle to destroy it.
Thus, the situation grew awkwardly tense: a vast Tianmo army, far outnumbering Da Chu's cultivators, was completely bottled up in the gate, unable to escape. Occasionally, a few defiant ones tried to venture out for a look, but they were instantly reduced to ash.
This awkward standoff was soon shattered, as another Tianmo army charged in from afar. Their numbers were unknown, but they blanketed the sky like a vast, dark ocean, rolling with demonic energy that made the stars rumble and devoured inch after inch of space.
Tianlao abruptly raised his sword, pointing it toward the approaching Tianmo forces.
Da Chu's cultivators activated tens of thousands of killing arrays again, sweeping out devastating immortal light that covered the stars. The newly arrived Tianmo hadn't even steadied their footing before being wiped out in waves, staining the stars with black blood mist.
The Tianmo generals snorted coldly, quickly stabilizing their ranks and deploying their own demonic killing arrays, bombarding Da Chu's forces from across the void.
The clash of arrays brought bloodshed and slaughter. Many Tianmo were destroyed, and Da Chu's cultivators fell in droves, the scene heart-wrenching.
At the same time, the Tianmo trapped in the domain gate surged out like a tide, merging with the other army in an instant, forming an overwhelmingly massive force.
Da Chu was now at a clear disadvantage, with more and more falling in the stars, their combat strength plummeting rapidly.
"Retreat," Tianlao ordered without delay, knowing they couldn't hold out. Continuing the fight would lead to total annihilation. Their goal was to fall back to Da Chu, which was protected by imperial weapons, garrison forces, and arrays laid over endless ages—strong enough to hold off this Tianmo army.
Seeing the cultivators flee, the Tianmo pressed forward aggressively, especially those previously trapped in the gate, pursuing with wild fury. They had been on a rampage until now, and this was their first real setback, trapped and unable to emerge. This rage needed to be quenched with blood.
In pursuit and retreat, the stars rumbled, leaving chaos in their wake.
By now, Da Chu was fully prepared.
The cultivators and mortals of Bei Chu had all withdrawn to Nan Chu. Along the three-million-li Nan Chu city walls, figures stood packed, all reserve forces clad in armor, gripping weapons, their expressions solemn.
History proved how wise Ye Chen's proposal to build these walls had been. It was these walls that had repelled the Tianmo time and again. Without this barrier, the gates of the heavens might have been razed during the first invasion, reduced to dust in the annals.
Over several centuries, past and present, the Nan Chu walls had been rebuilt repeatedly, inscribed with imperial divine patterns and covered in imperial arrays, making them a seamless defense. Knowing their importance, Da Chu had spared no expense, and now they would serve their purpose again.
"A scene we haven't seen in ages," Xiao Feng said on Nan Tian Men, his expression weathered yet filled with hatred.
His words resonated deeply, stirring the Tian Court cultivators.
Years ago, they had fought the Tianmo hordes right here. Every inch of these walls had been stained with the blood of heroes.
That battle had been one of despair, yet also of defiance, as they used their flesh and blood to build a bloody great wall for the myriad realms, fighting nearly to extinction.
And Tian Court Holy Lord Ye Chen had not disappointed the masses. In that desperate moment, he achieved great completion through rebirth, carrying Da Chu's blood debt on his back as he charged alone, slaughtering an emperor.
Now, the Tianmo invaded once more, and these walls would be their battlefield again.
Da Chu's Tian Court—its three sects, nine halls, and eighty-one gates—were all present, standing atop the walls.
Below the walls, even more people arrived, standing shoulder to shoulder as far as the eye could see.
Not just cultivators; even the mortal world beat war drums and blew horns. Emperors of various nations donned armor and mounted their warhorses, leading their troops toward the Nan Chu walls.
Though mere ants, they had a duty to guard their lands.
Da Chu's anti-demon war was now a total mobilization.
"You must come back," said Chu Xuan and Chu Ling, who were there as well. They had tied up their long hair and put on battle attire, their misty eyes gazing into the distance, as if piercing through countless stars to see that blood-stained figure— their husband, Da Chu's tenth emperor.
"Daddy, Ling'er is standing where you once stood," Ye Ling murmured with a smile, also dressed for battle, exuding a heroic air, ready to defend their home in her father's place.
"Ling'er, if we make it out alive, let me sleep over at your place for a night!"
At Tang San Shao's poke, the women all turned and glanced at the little chubby black figure.
"Don't be afraid, I'll protect you."
The clever little chubby black figure quickly dropped his lecherous grin, adopting a righteous expression— he had no choice; he needed to show loyalty, or he'd be beaten to a pulp.
"That's more like it." The women finally withdrew their gazes, though Ye Ling's eyes still sparkled with unresolved fire. She had already decided: once the Tianmo were repelled, she'd teach this little fatty a lesson— he had it coming.
"Tianlao and the others are nearly back to Da Chu. All forces, prepare for battle!" Fu Ya's voice boomed through the heavens.
As he spoke, the Nan Chu walls trembled with a hum. Countless artifacts rose into the air, attack arrays awakened, and protective barriers expanded. Everyone on the walls had a divine light gleaming in their eyes.
"Don't hold back later— fight to the death," Gu San Tong said, hands behind his back as he strolled along the walls with his usual swagger, motivating everyone as he went.
"The worst that can happen is death." Wu San Pao huffed on his ghost-headed blade, then polished it vigorously with his sleeve, determined to make it shine for the bloodshed ahead.
"If we can't win, that's fine— just make sure to look cool." Niu Shi San was shouting from another side, full of bluster.
In truth, such pre-battle pep talks were unnecessary. Da Chu's people were fierce by nature; even without invasions, they brawled daily. With the Tianmo attacking, they'd fight with unbridled ferocity, each one more savage than the last.
Boom!
With a tremendous boom, Tianlao and Dilao led their forces back in retreat, fighting as they fled, defeated again and again—from Bei Zhen Cangyuan, to Zhongtong Dadi, and finally to Nan Yan Daze.
Behind them, the Tianmo swept in like a dark ocean, engulfing the skies and earth.
"Is this the enemy you faced back then?" Yin Yue Huang Fei murmured, her face pale as death.
"Bloody memories," Qin Xiong rasped, his voice hoarse, standing like a monument on the walls, clad in wartime armor as in his past life— still a general. Though his cultivation was weak, he feared no battle. As always, if ordered, he'd charge without hesitation.
"Just arrived and already in the thick of it— how considerate," Yang Xuan coughed dryly.
"The wars of cultivators are truly brutal," said Shangguan Jiu, gripping her divine blade, while Lingfeng did the same with his immortal sword, which rang out in resonance.
"Is that the Tianmo?" The younger generation of Da Chu stammered, their voices trembling. They'd only heard the elders speak of them; seeing them for the first time, their power was terrifying.
"Open the gates!" Tianlao shouted from afar.
Before his words faded, the Nan Chu gates swung open one by one, allowing the retreating Da Chu cultivators to flood inside.
In mere moments, the Tianmo army arrived.
"Attack!" Fu Ya commanded, and countless attack arrays unleashed immortal light. The Tianmo reaching the gates suffered heavy losses, wiped out in waves before they could even catch their breath.
The Tianmo wouldn't take it lying down. Many Tianmo generals personally controlled their attack arrays, bombarding the walls. But embarrassingly, their onslaught failed to breach the defensive barrier.
"Attack— fight them to the end!" Whether the quasi-emperors of Tianxuan Gate or Da Chu's elites, they howled with dominating spirit. Countless array beams bombarded outward, and volleys of powerful crossbows rained down like arrows into the Tianmo ranks, felling them in swaths.
The Tianmo were hot-tempered and couldn't stand the taunts, charging at the walls like madmen fueled by bloodlust. But tragically, for every wave that advanced, another was obliterated. Even the defiant ones among them were convinced now, their eyes blood-red as they glared at Nan Chu, grinding their teeth in frustration.
The Tianmo refused to give up, summoning even more reinforcements, determined to devour Da Chu.
