Chapter 871: Causation Note

Wait a minute… Lao Sun actually believed it?

This was the first time I told the members of “Ji Dao” that they would have some connection with Bai Yang in the future. It turned out it wasn't just me… Would Bai Yang actually exchange a few words with them?

But I quickly realized what was going on. Bai Yang was originally a “Sheng Xiao,” and might even become a provincial-level “Sheng Xiao” in the future. It's not hard to understand that they could all interact with him in the game someday.

“Wait, you said I'm just an ordinary person…” Lao Sun spoke up again, “How could someone like me end up with a connection to such an amazing figure?”

Hearing that question put me in a tough spot.

It was like being in a game show with prizes.

If I just took the prize and left now, Lao Sun would become a “Ji Dao” member. But if I kept talking to him, he might suddenly decide that everything I said was a lie.

So, should I keep gambling on it?

“Lao Sun… what's your ‘Hui Xiang’?” I asked.

Next, I would decide whether to bet on “Yin Guo” based on his value.

“What's gotten into you, girl?” Lao Sun looked at me, puzzled. “You seemed pretty smart earlier… but now you're acting all weird. My ‘Yuan Wu,’ right? Didn't I show it to you in that Di Zhu game just now?”

As he said that, he reached out and grabbed at the air in front of me, but his hand was empty.

He seemed a bit embarrassed, steadied himself, and tried grabbing again.

Still nothing in his hand.

“Uh oh… it's not working… how…” Lao Sun scratched his head and looked up at me in surprise. “Where's my stuff?”

Just as I said, I always have trouble dealing with overly outgoing people.

He sounded like I was the one who took whatever was in his hand.

“What the heck… why can't I grab it… Oh well, it's just my ‘Yuan Wu.’” He looked up at me with a carefree expression, which made me feel awkward instead.

I helplessly smoothed my hair, not sure what this “disappearing Yuan Wu” was… Too bad my memories haven't all come back, so I don't know how powerful this person's “Hui Xiang” really is.

“Try again,” I said.

Lao Sun nodded and tried a few more times in front of me. He kept reaching out and grabbing at the air, his movements a bit awkward, like he was trying to catch something, but his hands stayed empty.

“Darn it, where's that feeling from before?” Lao Sun was getting anxious. “Why can't I grab anything?”

I knew from his state that he probably couldn't activate his “Hui Xiang” anymore. He was doubting himself.

Since it was such a weak “Hui Xiang user,” I might as well gamble once more.

From now on, I was betting on “Yin Guo.”

“Lao Sun, maybe stop trying for now. What were you asking me earlier?” I said.

“Earlier…?” Lao Sun thought for a moment, pulled his hand back from the air, and then said, “I… asked you how I could end up with a connection to such an amazing person.”

“Right.” I said, “Want me to guess for you? Guess how you'll meet this person in the future.”

“Sure.” Lao Sun nodded. “You're sharper than me. Tell me, how can I run into him?”

“Maybe you'll have some connection through a game.”

I placed my bet.

“Oh, I see, that makes sense.” Lao Sun nodded. “I guess that's the only way.”

He believed it.

I narrowly won the first round and started raising the stakes on “Yin Guo.”

“Meeting such an amazing figure must mean it's a really tough game, right?” Lao Sun asked.

I thought about it briefly, knowing that if it was a game designed by Bai Yang, it wouldn't be easy to clear.

“It should be pretty tough,” I raised the stakes.

“I figured as much.” Lao Sun said, “Do you know this person?”

“Of course,” I continued raising.

“No wonder… So he's one of us ‘Can Yu Zhe’?” Lao Sun said with a bitter smile.

“No, he's a ‘Sheng Xiao.’” I blurted out.

“What the heck?!” Lao Sun jumped up suddenly. “What did you just say?!”

I slowly widened my eyes, sensing something was wrong, but the words were already out. Where did I go wrong?

Every guess I made in the bet had been right… but one truth caused a crack?

“He's a ‘Sheng Xiao’? Little girl, are you just messing with me?”

“What…?” I was slightly stunned.

“How could I have a connection with a ‘Sheng Xiao’ in a game? Those things are out to kill us!” Lao Sun looked angry, like he'd been tricked. “Can you make friends with someone who wants you dead?! I should've left ages ago if I knew you were spouting nonsense. Wasting my time here!”

I suddenly felt confused…

Wait a second… Lao Sun believes there's someone who can change this place, believes he'll have some connection with that person in the future, and even believes the person's game won't be simple.

But he doesn't believe that person is a ‘Sheng Xiao’?

Doesn't that mean the person isn't a ‘Sheng Xiao’?

If the person isn't a ‘Sheng Xiao,’ then what is he?

My mind was suddenly in chaos, like something had been messed up.

Wasn't the one who could change this place supposed to be Yang Ge?

“Wait… hold on… Lao Sun…” I stood up, looking puzzled. “Don't go yet… I have something else to tell you…”

“Don't start!” Lao Sun waved his hand. “I knew this didn't sound right from the beginning. The more I hear, the more off it seems. Thinking about it, this is like some cult nonsense. Don't drag me into it.”

With that, he turned and stormed out the door.

I failed again, but I wasn't in the mood to chase after Lao Sun… because I was too baffled.

Would Yang Ge not be a ‘Sheng Xiao’ in the future?

But where else could the path of ‘Sheng Xiao’ lead?

I felt both excited and scared… Could Yang Ge really, as he said, turn into something beyond a human through self-suggestion?

A monster…?

But that doesn't make sense either. If he's a monster, how could he have even a brief conversation with Lao Sun?

While my mind was racing, I heard rustling sounds outside the door, like a voice I hadn't heard in a long time was talking to Lao Sun.

After a short while, Lao Sun came back in, smiling at me as he said:

“Hey, sis, why didn't you tell me about the ‘logic relations’ in this earlier? If you'd said that, I would've figured it out right away!”

I was a bit stunned and hadn't even opened my mouth when I saw Jiang Ruoxue, whom I hadn't seen in five years, pop out from behind Lao Sun with a mischievous grin. She waved at me and said:

“Hi!”
