Nobody at the scene paid any attention to Zheng Yingxiong; they were all staring at Tiantian.
“Do anything I want?” Laofang walked over with a smile. “Little girl, you’re way too naive. Do you know what’s going to happen next?”
“I know,” Tiantian replied seriously. “Whatever happens is fine, but you have to let this child go first.”
Seeing that nobody responded, Tiantian repeated, “No matter what, I’m the one who’s most useful to you, right? Keeping him here serves no purpose.”
“But if you don’t cooperate…” Laofang started feeling around Tiantian, only to find she had no reaction at all.
“Cooperate…?” Tiantian was a bit confused. “This plan was my idea. How am I not cooperating?”
“You…” Laofang was stunned and turned to look at the man in the suit and the young man, as if he’d never seen a girl like this before—she was being far too compliant.
The middle-aged man in the suit kept frowning at Tiantian, seemingly pondering her motives.
At that moment, the tall young man, who had been silent, spoke up, his expression looking a bit uneasy. “Uncle Fang… Uncle Liu… maybe we should just forget it… What’s the difference between us doing this and being animals…?”
“Damn it!” Laofang snapped. “We’re the animals? Did you eat the stuff we stole? Did you drink it?”
“I…” The young man was at a loss for words. “You two big guys, I tried to stop you many times when we were stealing before, but you always brought up your experience and seniority… That’s in the past, let’s not dwell on it, but what are you planning now? Robbery, rape, murder?”
“Xiaocheng, just stay out of it and keep quiet,” Laofang said. “We’re all breaking the law here, but no one’s going to bother us in this place… If the victims die here, anyone passing by won’t even say a word of regret. We’ve lived miserably enough in the real world—do we have to keep suffering here too?”
As he spoke, he glanced back at Tiantian and reached out to touch her face. “A girl of this caliber—how many of you have slept with one in the real world? Huh? Here’s your chance staring you in the face, and you don’t take it? Are you really going to wait until we escape this place, go back to being total failures, and then regret not doing it back then? Huh?!”
“No… that’s not right…” Xiaocheng furrowed his brow. “No matter what you say, forcing someone is wrong… She’s a person, not a tool!”
“Forcing…?” Laofang’s hand slowly moved to Tiantian’s neck and gently gripped her throat. “Am I forcing you, girl?”
Tiantian had seen scenes like this too many times, so she just slowly closed her eyes and said, “No, I’m doing this willingly. As long as you let this child go, I’m completely willing from here on out.”
Tiantian’s words made the three men hesitate again.
In all the TV dramas they’d watched, they’d never seen a scene like this. Why was she being so cooperative?
“She’s definitely up to something,” the man in the suit said. “Tie up the kid, or she might try to run.”
“What…?” Now it was Tiantian’s turn to be baffled. “Are you out of your minds?! I’ve already said all this, and you still won’t let the child go?!”
“It’s… it’s okay… sis…” Zheng Yingxiong got up from the ground, blood flowing from his nose and mouth. “I’ll protect you…”
A flood of thoughts rushed through Tiantian’s mind. Was there any way she could save Zheng Yingxiong and still get out of this safely?
“No… I don’t have to get out safely…” Tiantian murmured to herself.
Zheng Yingxiong shakily raised the newspaper sword in his hand again. “I’m… a hero…”
“Brat…” Laofang looked like he hated kids; his eyes were practically on fire as he stared at Zheng Yingxiong. “I’ll break your legs today…”
With that, he lunged at Zheng Yingxiong, but at the critical moment, Zheng Yingxiong threw away his sword and grabbed Laofang’s arm, biting down hard.
“Ouch!”
Laofang yelped in pain, but before he could fight back, Zheng Yingxiong suddenly rammed into his groin.
In just a second or two, Zheng Yingxiong managed to knock the bulky Laofang to the ground.
Tiantian froze for a moment, then quickly reached out to pull Zheng Yingxiong. “Run!”
The two of them turned and bolted for the door. The man in the suit saw what was happening and got up to chase them, but Xiaocheng hurriedly blocked his way. “Uncle Liu! Maybe we should…”
“Get out of here!” The man called Uncle Liu kicked Xiaocheng to the ground, then picked up a stick from the floor and chased after them.
Tiantian and Zheng Yingxiong didn’t have the upper hand in stamina, and after just a few steps, Uncle Liu caught up. He swung the stick hard at Tiantian.
Zheng Yingxiong cried out and leaped back to tackle Uncle Liu in the chest.
But Uncle Liu was clearly much stronger than Laofang; the tackle only stopped him for a moment, and he staggered back half a step.
He paused briefly, then swung the stick again.
Zheng Yingxiong was right in front and couldn’t dodge; the stick hit him squarely on the forehead.
The rotten stick splintered on his young head, but his body swayed yet held firm, bright red blood streaming down his forehead until it blurred his vision.
Tiantian gasped and stepped forward to shield Zheng Yingxiong. She was a bit taller than him, but still much shorter than the burly Uncle Liu.
“Damn it…” Uncle Liu gripped the broken stick and glared at Tiantian. “I knew you’d try to run… Don’t you get the situation yet? I say you can leave, and you leave. I say you can’t, and you die right here.”
“I was wrong… bro…” Tiantian trembled as she blocked Zheng Yingxiong behind her. “We won’t run anymore… The kid’s already hurt; don’t hit him again. I’ll do whatever you want me to do.”
Seeing the man unmoved, Tiantian quickly started pulling at her clothes. “See, bro, I can do it. I’ll do anything.”
Her hands were shaking, and the calm from before was completely gone from her eyes.
“This is interesting.” The man tossed the broken stick aside and looked at Tiantian with her disheveled clothes, intrigued. “You’re protecting that kid so much—who is he to you?”
“Just someone I met by chance,” Tiantian said. “He saved me once, so I’m saving him once.”
“Sis… don’t worry about me; I’ll protect you. I can die here…” Zheng Yingxiong whispered from behind Tiantian. “You just run… I’ll hold him back…”
Tiantian turned back quickly and wiped the blood from his forehead. “You silly kid, why are you protecting someone like me? There’s no need…”
“Sis, I told you before, because… I’m a hero.”
