When Hei Yang dragged his weary body to the location specified by Di Hou, he suddenly stopped outside the door.
Because the room inside was eerily quiet.
As long as Pei Qian Hu was awake, the room he was in could never be this silent.
With a grave expression, Hei Yang lowered his head and noticed fresh blood seeping from under the door, spreading out into the hallway.
A few Luo Yi were wandering outside the door, their feet trampling through the sticky blood as they paced back and forth, staring at the quiet door. They seemed puzzled too.
There were faint sounds coming from inside, but they clearly weren't from a fight.
Hei Yang reached out several times to push the door open, but he couldn't muster the courage.
What would he see after opening it?
Pei Qian Hu's mangled corpse?
If there had been even the slightest sound of a struggle from inside, he would have flung the door open without hesitation and fought Tian Hu with his life on the line.
But as things stood, the room was just too quiet, a silence that made Hei Yang's blood run cold.
Hei Yang felt he had never been so cowardly before. He didn't even have the nerve to peek inside, and his whole body was shaking uncontrollably.
But maybe Pei Qian Hu had won, or perhaps he was badly injured and waiting for help inside. After all, the Luo Yi hadn't charged in directly.
After hesitating for a long time and wrestling with his thoughts countless times, Hei Yang finally extended his hand and pushed the door open. The door panel smeared the sticky blood across the floor in a fan shape.
The suffocating scene inside immediately came into Hei Yang's view.
Pei Qian Hu's fur was completely stained with blood. He lay on the ground, unconscious or dead, his right arm entirely gone, with massive amounts of blood pouring from his body and covering nearly the entire room.
A child who looked only a few years old was facing away from the door, hugging a thick arm and gnawing on it with a "crunch, crunch" sound.
What was heartbreaking was that the child appeared completely unharmed.
As the door opened, the numerous Luo Yi outside suddenly seemed to sense something and turned their gazes toward the room.
But before the Luo Yi could pounce, Hei Yang's figure shot forward like a bolt. He charged in wildly, knocking over furniture in his path.
Tian Hu turned back in confusion and was instantly grabbed by the throat and pinned to the ground. The arm in his hand rolled away with a clatter.
Hei Yang's eyes were bloodshot, his extreme rage suppressing all his pain. Before Tian Hu could even react, he was struck with a devastating punch to the face, instantly losing several teeth.
"You monster...!"
Hei Yang gritted his teeth, picked up the fallen baby teeth from the ground, and shoved them all back into Tian Hu's mouth.
"Not everyone in this world will indulge you..."
In a panic, Tian Hu bit down hard, severing several of Hei Yang's fingers in his mouth, but Hei Yang showed no sign of letting go. He gripped Tian Hu's neck tightly, stuffing the teeth and his own severed fingers into his mouth all at once.
"You want to eat? Then eat your fill... Take all my bones..."
With a look of utter despair, Hei Yang forced his entire hand into Tian Hu's mouth.
"You seventy-something-year-old freak... You think you can just eat my family whenever you want...?"
Tian Hu gagged for a long time, spitting out the contents of his mouth with a series of messy sounds, before forcing out a twisted smile:
"Heh heh... Eat you all... The weak are meant to be eaten..."
"Weak..."
Hei Yang tightened his grip on Tian Hu's neck.
"Even with Man Li, how could Pei Qian Hu be weaker than you? You mistake others' kindness for weakness and their restraints for incompetence..."
"Weakness of the heart is still weakness..."
Tian Hu was on the verge of suffocating, and he began prying at Hei Yang's hands with his childish fingers.
"You people with weak hearts... If I don't eat you, the world will... It's all the same..."
Hei Yang's strength was sustained only by his rage, but as time dragged on, he started to lose the upper hand.
"Just lie there and get eaten..."
Tian Hu pried Hei Yang's hands away and let out a dry laugh.
"Your family's meat tastes so good... I wonder what yours is like...?"
"We won't be eaten..."
Hei Yang said with an icy expression.
"This world can't digest us... And neither can you... The one who should be consumed by this world is you."
Gathering the last of his strength, he pinned down Tian Hu's small body and pulled out a dagger with his mangled hand from behind, stabbing toward Tian Hu's stomach.
But his energy was completely spent, and the blade only left a deep gash a few centimeters long on Tian Hu's enhanced body.
"Ha ha!"
Tian Hu lay on the ground, flailing his arms and laughing.
"The food has no strength left!! No strength left!!"
Hei Yang smirked coldly, tossed the dagger aside, and pulled a Dao from his pocket. In a hoarse voice, he said:
"I owe Pei Qian Hu all my Dao... This one settles the debt..."
With that, he placed the Dao on Tian Hu's stomach and pressed it deep into the wound. Before Tian Hu could understand what was happening, Hei Yang released his grip and collapsed weakly to the side.
Then, a group of pale figures pounced. They were incredibly strong, each seeming to possess Di Ji level skills.
Tian Hu was startled and tried to flee, but one of the Luo Yi grabbed his ankle on the spot.
They slammed him hard onto the ground and began groping along his back.
"Ah! What is this... Ma Niang! Ma Niang!"
Before his cries for help could reach far, he felt a sharp pain in his back, as if his eye there was being ripped out alive.
Then the second one, and the third.
"Ah!! Ah!!"
The pain made Tian Hu's mind spin, but he quickly calmed down, because he realized these things seemed to be targeting only the eyes on his back.
But just as he started to relax...
The Luo Yi sensed something odd. It seemed there was another eye hidden deeper in the room.
One Luo Yi grabbed Tian Hu's ankle and flipped him over, exposing his abdomen.
"No... you can't do this..."
Tian Hu was stunned, but in the next second, his limbs were restrained.
"Ma Niang...! Ma Niang, save me!"
The Luo Yi paid no attention to his pleas. They thrust their withered, icy fingers into the wound in his abdomen and slowly tore it open.
Countless hands reached inside, fumbling through Tian Hu's body for that elusive Dao.
The more people there were, the harder it was to find.
The Dao slipped through their fingertips, darting to even more unreachable places in an instant.
Perhaps the sinful could never attain the Dao.
But in that moment, every one of those lowly Luo Yi yearned to grasp that fleeting hope.
