Chapter Three Hundred Fifty-One: Discuss and Decide
The young master, fearing that his father had a hidden illness, did not tell him the details, only that he would return to Mount Tai for recuperation after a while.
On the second day, the young master and his men rushed back to Mount Tai.
During the journey, the young master’s face was gloomy, as if covered with a layer of ice, and he did not speak a word.
When they reached Mount Tai, it was already dusk. The young master went straight to the ancestral hall and paid his respects to the ancestors. Then he returned to his room, locked the door, and did not come out for a long time.
The next day, the young master summoned all the elders of the family and held a meeting in the main hall.
The elders were puzzled. They did not know why the young master had called them together in such a hurry.
The young master sat on the main seat, his face still grim. He swept his gaze across the elders and said in a low voice, "Everyone, I have something important to discuss with you today."
The elders exchanged glances, their curiosity piqued.
The young master then recounted what had happened in Jin'an Prefecture, omitting the parts about his father's potential illness.
When the elders heard that someone had dared to assassinate the young master and that it was likely related to the imperial court, their faces changed dramatically.
"Young master, this is a serious matter!" one of the elders exclaimed.
"Indeed," another elder added, "we must investigate this thoroughly and find out who is behind this."
The young master nodded. "That is why I have called you all here. We need to discuss how to deal with this matter."
The elders began to discuss amongst themselves, offering various suggestions. Some suggested informing the imperial court and seeking justice, while others proposed taking matters into their own hands and retaliating.
The young master listened patiently, his eyes thoughtful.
After a while, he raised his hand, signaling for silence.
"I have considered all your suggestions," he said, his voice firm. "However, I have already made a decision."
The elders looked at him expectantly.
"We will not involve the imperial court," the young master declared. "We will handle this ourselves."
A ripple of surprise went through the elders.
"Young master, are you sure?" one of them asked hesitantly.
"I am," the young master replied, his gaze unwavering. "If we rely on the imperial court, we will be putting ourselves in a passive position. We need to take the initiative."
The elders were silent for a moment, contemplating the young master's words.
Finally, one of the oldest elders spoke. "Since the young master has made up his mind, we will follow your lead."
The other elders also expressed their agreement.
The young master nodded, a hint of a smile appearing on his face. "Good. Now, let us discuss the details of how we will proceed."
The meeting continued for a long time, with the young master and the elders discussing various strategies and making plans.
By the time the meeting concluded, it was already late at night. The young master was tired, but his mind was clear. He knew that the road ahead would be difficult, but he was determined to protect his family and his legacy.
