Chapter 1300: Arrogant Donkey

After emerging from underground, Ye Chen didn't sit in meditation to heal anymore. He directly took Dao Zhi and flew out of the Si Ji Gu Xing.

Stepping into the vast starry sky, he gazed toward the misty void, wondering silently whether Jian Shen and the others had found Da Chu. Two hundred years had passed, an eternity, and he didn't know if the homeland of Da Chu was still safe.

Gathering his thoughts, he took out the star chart given by Jian Shen and carefully examined the directions.

As for Dao Zhi, that fellow was trailing behind Ye Chen with an air of self-importance, occasionally pulling out the bronze mirror he had swiped from the ancient tomb. Compared to the earlier bronze ancient lamp, this mirror was even more valuable.

After walking for an unknown amount of time, Dao Zhi suddenly stopped and glanced back instinctively at the starry sky behind them.

For some reason, he kept feeling like a pair of eyes was watching him, following along the entire way, which made him sense a chilling wind at his back, sending involuntary shivers down his spine.

Ahead, Ye Chen glanced back at him. "You've done too many shady deeds; it's no surprise you're being watched."

"Don't scare me." Dao Zhi shook his head. "This is a craft passed down from my ancestors—I can't let it die with me. Besides, every time I enter an ancient tomb, I burn paper money."

"Striking deals with the underworld? That's an interesting way to put it. Even grave-robbing sounds fresh and refined coming from you."

"It's a great endeavor."

"It's certainly grand." Ye Chen sighed, waving his hand to produce a divine pearl, which he pressed into Dao Zhi's forehead. "This is the Zhi Yang Shen Zhu. It wards off evil spirits and yin energies—take it for protection."

"I knew it!" Dao Zhi grinned, absorbing the Zhi Yang Shen Zhu. He instantly felt invigorated, his whole demeanor more spirited, and even his walk became more swaggering. The warm yang energy flowed through his entire body.

"From now on, stay away from yin and underworld things. And as for ancient tombs, steer clear as much as possible." Ye Chen handed Dao Zhi a storage bag. "I don't want to carry your corpse back to the Da Chu homeland."

"Why do you think they call you the Heavenly Court Holy Lord? What a generous move." Dao Zhi opened the storage bag and chuckled. "So many source stones—enough for me to live it up for ages. Who needs to rob tombs anymore?"

"That's just your style, and I like it."

"Honestly, I still feel like there's a pair of eyes on me." Dao Zhi put away the storage bag and scratched his head, looking back again. "I told you, it's a deal with the underworld. I even burned paper money for you all."

"That donkey is really something else." As if he hadn't heard Dao Zhi's mutterings, Ye Chen stared ahead with a meaningful expression, speaking in a profound tone.

Hearing this, Dao Zhi turned from behind and followed Ye Chen's gaze to the starry sky in front.

There, a donkey was striding fearlessly through the stars, its tail swaying rhythmically. Its fur was smooth and glossy, wrapped in mysterious aura, truly extraordinary.

Dao Zhi stroked his chin and looked it up and down. "Never seen a donkey walk with that kind of arrogance."

"It's no ordinary beast." Ye Chen said casually, "It has Zhun Sheng cultivation, and a strand of domineering bloodline flows in its veins—probably Qi Lin blood. Even Sheng beings might not be able to handle it."

"What is the world coming to? Even a donkey has become a spirit." Dao Zhi couldn't help but grimace.

"Keep staring, and scram." As they spoke, the donkey passed by them in mid-air and suddenly spoke in human tongue, striding with confident steps, its head held high. The most amusing part was the way it looked at Ye Chen and Dao Zhi—with its donkey eyes glancing sideways.

"It's a very self-assured donkey." Ye Chen stroked his chin, his expression full of meaning.

"I can tell you right now, if we catch it and stew it, it should taste pretty good." Dao Zhi said with a serious tone.

"That would feed us for a long time."

"No problem, I have a big appetite."

"Hey, you’ve got some nerve!" The donkey lost its temper on the spot, turning dramatically and kicking out with its hind hooves straight at Ye Chen and Dao Zhi—the force was no joke.

Dao Zhi quickly ducked behind Ye Chen. A donkey that had become a spirit, especially one with Qi Lin blood and Zhun Sheng cultivation, could turn him into a pulp with one kick.

He might be afraid, but that didn't mean Ye Chen was. Ye Chen raised his hand and delivered a solid Great Smashing Stele Palm.

Boom!

Palm met hoof in a head-on clash, shaking the starry sky.

Ye Chen had underestimated the donkey. Even with his Sheng body strength, his palm stung from the impact.

The donkey gritted its teeth in pain, its hoof numb. It hadn't expected a Huang realm cultivator to have such a powerful physical body and combat strength—enough to make even a Zhun Sheng like itself tremble all over.

You're tough!

The arrogant donkey backed down immediately, turning tail and fleeing. Perhaps its hind hoof was numbed from Ye Chen's hit, because its escape posture was comically awkward, hobbling along in a way that was quite entertaining to watch.

Ye Chen rubbed his palm but didn't pursue. He still had to find the reincarnated ones and didn't have time to mess around with a donkey.

However, before he and Dao Zhi could continue on their way to search for the reincarnated ones, the donkey that had just vanished reappeared, this time fleeing with its tail between its legs, its four hooves pounding frantically.

Ye Chen and Dao Zhi raised their eyebrows, realizing the donkey was being chased—otherwise, it wouldn't look so desperate.

Sure enough, three figures pursued it from behind: a white-clothed young man and two purple-clothed elders, all with Zhun Sheng cultivation and faces as dark as charcoal.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

The white-clothed young man and the two purple-clothed elders shot past Ye Chen and Dao Zhi like gusts of wind, their curses echoing through the stars. "You damn beast, don't let me catch you!"

"Talk about perfect timing." Ye Chen grabbed Dao Zhi and pulled him into the Hun Dun Ding, then gave chase.

"In the Hun Dun Ding, Dao Zhi said in surprise, "What's your game? Want to eat donkey meat? We could be using this time to find the reincarnated ones instead of chasing some donkey."

"There's a reincarnated one, and you didn't notice?" Ye Chen replied immediately.

"A reincarnated one?" Dao Zhi's eyes lit up, and he looked out at the outside world. Skipping over the donkey, he focused on the three pursuers, his gaze settling on the white-clothed young man.

"It's running too fast—I couldn't get a clear look. Which one from Da Chu is it?"

"Then let me make it clear for you." Ye Chen accelerated like a divine ray, catching up to the two elders and the young man in a few steps, then turned around, flying backward the whole time.

"What an impressive technique." The white-clothed young man and the two purple-clothed elders were startled—flying backward was actually faster than them. Keep in mind, they were Zhun Sheng, while this person was only in the Huang realm.

"See it clearly now?" Ye Chen sent a mental message to Dao Zhi.

"I seem to see a shiny, bald forehead." Dao Zhi stroked his chin with a serious expression.

"Need any help?" Outside, Ye Chen continued flying backward, grinning at the white-clothed young man with interest, even winking, which left the young man looking bewildered at this odd character.

"Young friend, if you help us catch that donkey, I'll give you a Zhun Sheng weapon," one of the elders beside the young man said, his face darkening at the mention of the donkey.

"You got it!" Ye Chen turned around immediately, now flying forward as he dashed after the donkey.

"Chase away! Chase with all you've got!" Up ahead, the donkey was fleeing wildly, even taunting over its shoulder.

But as soon as it looked back, a massive palm smacked it square in the face.

Wow, what a thrill!

The donkey flipped through the air, tumbling dozens of times in the stars before stopping, its head buzzing as if it had been kicked by a donkey—oh, wait, it was one.

In that brief moment, the white-clothed young man and the two purple-clothed elders caught up, each wielding spiked clubs, and they went straight to work without a word.

Boom! Bang!

The starry sky turned chaotic in an instant, filled with nonstop pounding sounds.

The donkey was in a sorry state, its head still buzzing, caught completely off guard.

Ye Chen stopped and watched with interest, feeling an inexplicable sense of satisfaction at the sight of the donkey getting beaten. He almost couldn't resist joining in for a few kicks.

Soon, the starry sky fell silent.

The donkey was done for—it knelt there, dazed from the beating by the white-clothed young man and the two purple-clothed elders. They locked it with iron chains and added several seals for good measure.
