Another bustling street, and Ye Chen was still in disguise, hiding far away and watching the divine mirror floating above the entrance of the Mu Family Gambling House.
He had gone in, and in less than a minute, he was thrown out again. This made Ye Chen convinced that the problem was with that divine mirror. It must have seen through his identity, allowing the gambling house to be prepared in advance.
Indeed, for every scheme, there is a countermeasure!
Ye Chen scratched his head vigorously. He thought that with *Taixu Zoushen*, he could easily make a fortune, but now he realized how unrealistic that was. As long as that divine mirror was there, he would be beaten every time he tried to enter.
Nonsense!
Ye Chen cursed under his breath. If this wasn't Youdu, he would have directly drawn his bow and shattered that divine mirror.
Hmm?
Just as Ye Chen was feeling frustrated, his soul suddenly trembled.
A reincarnated person!
Ye Chen abruptly turned around and shot off in a certain direction, which was the direction of the transmission array leading to Youdu's third level. The closer he got, the stronger that familiar feeling became.
Who is it? Who?
Ye Chen moved at top speed, weaving through the crowded street and kicking up gusts of wind that overturned stalls and knocked people over, drawing waves of curses.
He ignored it all.
His eyes were fixed dead ahead on the city center. As he hurried along, his fingers in his sleeve kept moving, continuously performing the Zhou Tian divination secret technique.
It's a woman!
Ye Chen muttered to himself. He hadn't figured out who, but he was certain it was a female.
However, when he reached the transmission array to Youdu's third level, that faint connection silently vanished into Youdu's second level. This meant the reincarnated person had just left for the third level.
Damn it!
Ye Chen clenched his fists inside his sleeve. He had rushed as fast as he could, but he was still one step too late. He hadn't even caught a glimpse of the person's back.
Feeling helpless, Ye Chen turned to the elder guarding the transmission array.
Coincidentally, the elder on duty today was the same white-haired elder who had scolded him earlier.
"Greetings, senior."
Ye Chen gritted his teeth and stepped forward to bow.
"It's you again." The white-haired elder's face instantly darkened when he saw Ye Chen.
"I was rude before, senior. I hope you'll be magnanimous about it." As Ye Chen spoke, he quickly handed over a storage bag containing five hundred source stones. "This is a small token from me. Please accept it, senior."
"That's more like it." The white-haired elder smoothly took the storage bag, and his expression softened a bit.
"Senior, I have a question for you." Ye Chen edged closer and eyed the elder tentatively. "A woman just left through this transmission array. Do you know who she is?"
"There were several women who left from here just now. Which one are you asking about?"
"Well..." Ye Chen rubbed his brow with one hand while pinching his fingers in his sleeve to divine.
"Think it through before you speak." The white-haired elder said leisurely. If Ye Chen spouted another shocking name, he would unhesitatingly throw the source stones back in his face and might even drag him off for a beating.
"She was wearing green clothes and had purple hair."
"Wearing green and with purple hair—surely you're talking about Zi Ling Princess?"
"Zi Ling? Princess?" Ye Chen was stunned. He hadn't expected the reincarnated person to have such a noble status.
"Green clothes and purple hair—that's Zi Ling Princess for you." The white-haired elder stroked his beard.
"Could you inform her for me, senior? I'd like to see Zi Ling Princess."
"Get lost!" The white-haired elder exploded in anger, his face turning dark with veins. He had just started to warm up to this guy, and now he was pushing his luck. That was a princess, with an status far too exalted. Did he think he could just waltz in for a meeting?
Ye Chen had already bolted far away. The elder's shout had come out of nowhere, laced with cultivation power, leaving him seeing stars and his divine sea buzzing. His head was still ringing—if he were an ordinary Heaven Realm cultivator, he would have been sent flying.
Screw that!
Even from a distance, Ye Chen could hear the white-haired elder jumping up and down, spitting curses left and right.
Whoa!
Ye Chen ducked into the crowd and rubbed his brow hard.
He'd been just two or three seconds too late and missed it. Now he knew the reincarnated person's identity, but it didn't help at all. The only blame was Youdu's strict hierarchy—her status as a princess was too lofty, even for an emperor-level elder to disturb lightly.
Ye Chen felt frustrated again. He had planned to hit the gambling house for some cash, but Youdu only had one, and he couldn't get in.
Sell the house—he had to sell the house!
Ye Chen made up his mind. He needed to scrape together the money to buy property in the second level, which would let him access the third level. Compared to down here, his chances of encountering the reincarnated person up there were much higher, since anyone coming down would pass through the third level.
"Kid, finally found you."
As he walked, someone slapped Ye Chen on the shoulder.
Snapping out of his thoughts, Ye Chen turned to see Fan Tong standing behind him, seemingly out of nowhere.
Fan Tong was dressed even more bizarrely today, draped in a black cloth, wearing floral shorts, and sporting hair like a bird's nest. He looked like a beggar on the run, standing out awkwardly on the street.
"What's with you everywhere?" Ye Chen sized up Fan Tong.
"Hey, what kind of talk is that?"
"You know, showing up like this could get you killed." Ye Chen said seriously, even stepping back a pace with a look that screamed he didn't know this guy.
"Don't jinx me." Fan Tong scratched his messy hair. "Come on, tell me what's up. I woke up early and saw your house with a for-sale sign. What's going on?"
"What else? I'm broke."
"No way! Your master is so powerful—how could you be out of money?" Fan Tong eyed Ye Chen skeptically.
"He's off wandering the clouds and didn't leave me any cash." Ye Chen picked his ear, giving himself a perfectly reasonable excuse.
"Then hurry up and sell it. Once that's done, lend me some."
"Get lost." Ye Chen snapped and turned to leave.
"Don't go!" Fan Tong grabbed him hastily, glancing around secretively before whispering, "I found something for us. Want to check it out with me?"
"You found treasure and didn't keep it for yourself? Thinking of me?"
"Don't talk nonsense. We're neighbors, right? We share the meat."
"Then spill—what kind of treasure?"
"You ever heard of an earth spirit vein?" Fan Tong winked at Ye Chen.
"Earth spirit vein?" Ye Chen's eyes lit up. He had not only heard of it but had even absorbed one before, back in the Da Chu Zhengyang Sect's underground world. That vein had given him a huge boost, and hearing the term again stirred up memories from years past.
"Looks like you know about it." Fan Tong grinned slyly.
"You know where one is?"
"You bet." Fan Tong smoothed his hair. "It's a fragmented one, though. I stumbled on it during my travels."
"If you know about it, why not take it?"
"I tried." Fan Tong coughed. "But there's a thousand-year-old tree demon growing on it, and it's vicious. Every time I went to grab it, I got my butt kicked."
"Can't beat it, so get some help?"
"Get a stronger cultivator, and I might not even get scraps—could even get myself killed. Get someone at my level, and I don't trust them. That tree demon has been soaking up the earth spirit vein for years; it's brutal."
"A thousand-year tree demon—that's at least emperor realm. You're asking a heaven realm like me? Are you full?"
"Hear me out." Fan Tong switched to divine sense transmission. "I've studied it over the years. That tree demon nirvanas every hundred years, and it's weakest for three to five days after. I need three helpers at my level for the fight, and one to collect the vein."
"So, besides me, you've got other helpers?"
"You know it—and they're neighbors too." Fan Tong's smile turned sleazy. "That little fox girl. She's quasi-emperor too. Her skills aren't much, but her charm techniques are useful. That old tree demon's a total pervert."
"Even with her, that's only three."
"What about the one on your shoulder?" Fan Tong glanced at the little eagle perched there. "Your spirit pet's no joke. No need to hide it—I can tell its cultivation's not weaker than mine, and its combat power's on par. The three of us can hold off the tree demon, and you can focus on grabbing the earth spirit vein."
"You're quite the schemer!"
"Hey, that's not fair. This is a good opportunity."
"It's a good one, sure." Ye Chen chuckled. "But tell me, how long will the round trip take? I've got the alchemist selection in a few days—that's important and can't be delayed."
"You're an alchemist?" Fan Tong blinked, sizing up Ye Chen in surprise. He hadn't realized Ye Chen had that identity—a full quasi-emperor like him, and he'd missed it.
"Just say it—how many days?"
"If everything goes smooth, three days tops." Fan Tong said confidently. "I've got it all planned. I never mess around with life-or-death stuff. You can count on that. So, in or out?"
"In, why not?" Ye Chen replied straightforwardly. An earth spirit vein would be a huge benefit if he absorbed it, and he wasn't worried about Fan Tong or the fox girl pulling tricks—his own power plus the little eagle could handle them. That was his confidence speaking.
"Then let's move!" Fan Tong wasted no time, grabbing Ye Chen and heading straight for the transmission array.
