Qi Xia stood up and slowly retreated a little. He calculated that the time was just about right; if he didn't move, something might splash onto his face.
The two men struggled to pull backward for a long time, expending their last bit of strength, only to find the rope still completely unmoving. Their final trace of competitiveness had been utterly worn away.
“Damn it... Is that woman nailed to the ground?” Wang Ge gritted his teeth.
“No way... We saw her lie down with our own eyes...” the fat man said. “What in the world is her weight anyway?”
As they spoke, their voices gradually faded, and they were almost completely collapsing onto the rope.
“No... I can't go on...” Wang Ge slowly released his hands. “Stop pulling for now; this rope is too tight on me... If we keep pulling from both ends, I can barely breathe.”
He looked down at his hands, which were so scraped that barely any intact skin remained.
“Alright...” The fat man nodded, slowly relaxing his strained hands. “Why didn't you tie a dead knot around your waist like I did? You had to wrap it around yours.”
With only one side applying force, the rope lost its tension and sagged limply once the pulling stopped.
“If I didn't wrap it around my waist? What the hell are you talking about...” Wang Ge said. “This rope only has two ends—one with you and one with Di Niu. What was I supposed to tie a dead knot with?”
As he spoke, he felt something was wrong—the rope seemed to be tightening again.
“Ouch... Hey... Stop pulling...” Wang Ge felt a sudden tightness in his abdomen. “When will this end?”
“It's not me pulling...” the fat man said. “Something's wrong...”
Before the two men could even bend down to grab the rope, they saw Di Niu in the pit tightly hugging her knees, curled up into a ball.
In the next second, her entire body suddenly unfurled, springing up from the pit like a coiled spring.
The two men were yanked forward by the immense force, losing their balance and stumbling a few steps.
Di Niu's movements didn't stop there. She twisted her waist dramatically in mid-air, turning her upper body to the right and swinging her legs to the left, as if building up power.
Reaching the peak of her spin, she exploded with astonishing strength, spinning in the air like a top.
This was clearly not a motion a human could perform, but her body, after extreme enhancement, defied all common sense.
In an instant, the two men were hurled forward like bullets, spewing blood as they shot off with a whoosh.
Qi Xia could barely hear Wang Ge cough once before going silent—the rope was wrapped around his waist, and the tightening had essentially cut him in half.
Everything happened within two seconds. Di Niu, like a fishing reel, had wound the rope tightly around herself, dragging the two men right in front of her.
Not a single scream was heard as the dust settled.
Blood overflowed from both men's mouths. At such speeds, ordinary people would hardly survive.
Besides, with all the rope now in front of Di Niu, there was no doubt she had won the contest.
Qi Xia slowly approached and saw the gruesome scene. The rope was still wrapped around Wang Ge's waist, pulled so tight that it made his midsection as thin as his legs.
His eyes were bulging red and popped out shockingly, and his tongue hung limp outside his mouth.
He was clearly dead.
The fat man fared a bit better—his waist was obviously broken, and he lay on the ground at a right angle, his upper and lower teeth chattering nonstop. He couldn't utter a word, only gurgling blood from his mouth.
“I won. You were right; bursting with power in an instant can win the match.” Di Niu stood up, untied the rope from her waist, and walked over to the fat man, speaking softly. “You survived, even without the 'Dao', but you're free now. Go.”
The fat man lay on the ground, his eyes glancing sideways at Di Niu, his lips moving without making a sound.
He seemed both terrified and fearful, even forgetting his pain.
“Or... I could help you.” Di Niu said. “Your waist is broken. Even with the best medical treatment right away, it might take months to stand again, or you could end up paralyzed forever.”
The fat man just trembled his lips as he looked at Di Niu, still silent.
“If you want me to help, just blink.” Di Niu said while untying the rope from him. “Otherwise, I can carry you outside, and you can find a way to leave on your own. I have a guest here, so I can't keep you.”
The fat man lay there stunned for a long time, seemingly weighing whether he could really survive. After a while, he trembled and blinked.
Now that all his teammates were dead and he was badly injured, being dumped on the street to die slowly seemed worse than a quick end here.
Di Niu saw the fat man blink and turned to look at Qi Xia. “You can be a witness—he asked for it.”
“Mm.” Qi Xia nodded. “I saw it; he asked for it.”
Di Niu stood up and raised her foot, stomping down on the fat man's head.
It burst like a watermelon, splattering sticky pulp everywhere.
“My apologies for the sight.” Di Niu said calmly.
“I'm in a hurry.” Qi Xia said. “Give me a chance.”
Di Niu turned back and glanced at the bead above Qi Xia's head, sensing it was on the verge of falling.
“Looking for me? That doesn't seem right.”
Di Niu reached out and grabbed the two corpses, then hurled them away with force.
Standing nearby, Qi Xia realized just how terrifying Di Niu's strength was—a gust of wind swirled around her as she threw the bodies.
She then brushed off her hands, unbuttoned the bottom of her suit and shirt, and rolled them up to tie at her waist.
Her tawny abs were now exposed, with muscle lines as sharply defined as if carved by a knife.
“Dao Cheng does sound a bit more interesting.” Di Niu said softly. “I've been suppressing myself for too long.”
“Forgive my boldness.” Qi Xia said.
Just as the black sphere was about to shatter, Qi Xia stared into Di Niu's eyes and spoke softly, asking his only question.
Only if this was answered could he confirm if his approach was correct.
“Di Niu.” Qi Xia called. “Can I trust you?”
The moment he finished speaking, the wavering black bead finally settled on a path, drifting in the air for a moment before coming to rest at Di Niu's forehead.
Di Niu's eyes flickered as she looked at the bead hovering at her brow, then she removed her tight necktie and tossed it aside.
“You can trust me completely.” she said.
Bang!
The bead shattered without hesitation upon hearing the answer.
