Chapter 279: Seeking the Dao in the Warehouse

The Lizard Person glared at Bai Yang Gege, speechless with rage.

Bai Yang Gege paid him no mind, roughly shoved him aside, and then said softly, "By the way, today's embarrassment is all on you—don't try to pin it on me."

Although the Lizard Person's "disciples" numbered around several dozen, they all stepped aside to let us pass.

Hu Shushu and She Shushu turned back and pulled me along, and we followed Bai Yang Gege.

After walking about fifty steps, Bai Yang Gege turned back and whispered to us, "From now on, after work, you four should stick together. If any problems come up, just buy some time—I'll take care of it."

Hei Yang Shushu hesitated for a moment after hearing this and asked,"So, Yang Ge... does that mean we're keeping this child from now on?"

"How about it?" Bai Yang Gege turned to look at him. "Do you see any issue with that?"

"Ah, no... not at all..." Hei Yang Shushu shook his head. "Yang Ge, you must have your own plans... I just feel that this child won't help you earn any 'Dao.' Your path to ascension will only get longer..."

"If all I cared about was ascending, I wouldn't say it about that child—you three, I couldn't keep any of you around either." Bai Yang Gege replied. "I've never had any family since I was young. Since we've shared meals at the same table, you're my family. Even if I do leave... I'll make sure you're all settled first."

"Yang Ge, you don't need to worry about me!" Hu Shushu said. "I'm just a burden anyway. If you want to ascend, feel free to cut me loose anytime!"

"Shut your mouth!" She Shushu smacked Hu Shushu on the back of the head. "Can't you tell a good thing when you hear it? Who are you to act all righteous?"

"You damn snake... why the hell did you hit me?" Hu Shushu asked, rubbing the back of his head.

"Why are you talking like that now...?" She Shushu reached out and touched Hu Shushu's mask. "Little Tiger, do you have a fever? Why aren't you cursing me out?"

"I'm not... I don't want to curse anymore, so don't push it." Hu Shushu pushed She Shushu's hand away. "Go on, get to work."

She Shushu nodded after hearing that, then came over and patted my head.

I couldn't help but step back a little, since She Shushu's smell was pretty unpleasant.

"What's there to be afraid of?" She Shushu shook his head. "Even though I'm a 'Snake,' I'm not going to eat a little 'Rat' like you right now."

"Ah... it's not that... I'm not afraid you'll eat me..." I quickly shook my head.

"Alright, I have to go." She Shushu still patted my head. "I'll play with you again tonight."

After She Shushu left, Hei Yang Shushu and Hu Shushu went their separate ways. I had no idea which door to use, so I just followed Bai Yang Gege.

After all, every door here looked the same—how did they remember?

We walked another fifty steps or so before Bai Yang Gege finally stopped.

"Rat, you go out from here." He pointed to the door beside him. "Your door is exactly one hundred and thirteen doors away from mine. Remember that for next time."

"Ah... okay, I've got it." I nodded. "Then... I'll head out first, Bai Yang Gege..."

Bai Yang Gege looked at me and blinked slightly, asking,"Why do you call them 'uncle' and me 'brother'?"

"Because... you sound younger..." I said quietly. "You feel more like a brother to me..."

"Brother, huh...?" A hint of disappointment showed in Bai Yang Gege's eyes. "Do you know how long I've been here...?"

I quickly added, "If you don't like it, Bai Yang Gege... I can call you 'uncle' instead..."

"No, just call me 'brother.'" Bai Yang Gege shook his head. "After all, no one's ever called me that before."

"Ah...?"

"Rat." Bai Yang Gege said, "Don't die out there."

"Die...?" I thought Bai Yang Gege was overthinking it, because the Zhu Que outside seemed like it would protect me—I probably wouldn't die.

"Maybe I'm just worrying too much." Bai Yang Gege shook his head and pulled four small balls out of his pocket to give to me.

I'd seen these before—Qin Ding Dong Jie had used them in a game with the referee.

"These four 'Dao' are for your protection. I don't expect much from you—just break even, no losses."

"Th-thank you, Bai Yang Gege." So that's what "Dao" is called?

"Go on, see you tonight." Bai Yang Gege pushed the door open for me, and I saw it led right back to the warehouse entrance where I'd come from.

I said goodbye and stepped out, feeling amazed.

I stood there blankly at the warehouse door, thinking about the rules Hu Shushu and She Shushu had told me.

I'm the referee for this warehouse, so I have to wait at the door for "participants"...

I don't know why, but I felt a bit nervous.

Would anyone really come to join my game...?

I pulled out the little notebook Bai Yang Gege had given me and carefully read through the rules again. They were a bit complicated—I wasn't sure if I could handle it...

The sun slowly moved across the sky, and I felt like I'd been waiting forever, but no one showed up.

My warehouse must be too out of the way...

But that was also a good thing! I was worried I'd mess it up... and worried I'd make Bai Yang Gege lose money.

They'd given me food, so I couldn't let them down...

I was really torn—I wanted to earn some "Dao" for Bai Yang Gege, but I also didn't want anyone to come find me...

"Little Rat!" A voice suddenly called out behind me, startling me.

I turned around and saw two big sisters—they were so beautiful!

Well... to be precise, one was extraordinarily beautiful, like a star from a magazine. The other was pretty too, but she paled in comparison.

Ah! This wasn't the time to think about that.

Th-there were guests!

I didn't know where to put my hands, so I stood there awkwardly for a moment before clasping them behind my back.

"D-do you two want to join my 'trial'?" I asked bravely, and once the words were out, I thought I sounded pretty okay.

"'Trial'...?" One of the beautiful sisters smiled. "Is that a kid's voice...? Everyone else calls it a 'game'—why are you calling it a 'trial'?"

"Ah, I..." I racked my brain for an explanation, but it was completely blank—I couldn't think of anything.

"Never mind, little sister." The beautiful sister shook her head. "Tell me, what is your game?"

"Ah, my game is called..."

Oh no, I totally forgot!

"It's called..."

"What is it called?" The beautiful sister stared at me seriously.

The more I tried to remember what was in that little notebook, the blanker my mind got... What was Bai Yang Gege's game again?

That exceptionally beautiful sister glanced at me and asked, "Are you new to being a 'Sheng Xiao'? How could you even forget your own game?"

"Wh-who said I forgot..."

I turned and looked at my warehouse, and suddenly I had a brilliant idea.

"You two sisters! My game is called 'Warehouse Search for Dao'!"
