Lin Qian and Han Yi Mo hid behind a pile of overturned tables and chairs in the corridor. They were blocked from escaping.
"Feed, feed! Come out!" the man in the black windbreaker shouted from a distance. "Come out so I can see if you're the person we're looking for."
After hearing this, Lin Qian's face darkened completely. She slowly peeked out to see who it was, but the next second, she spotted a small black object flying toward her and quickly ducked back.
Boom!
A moderate explosion erupted on the tables and chairs, instantly shaking the two of them off balance.
"What is this thing?" Han Yi Mo asked in shock, clutching his head. "How could this happen?"
A stone smoldering with flames slowly rolled up to Lin Qian. She picked up the small stone and touched it; it was scorching hot.
"Was it this that caused the explosion…?" Lin Qian suddenly thought of something and called out loudly, "Is that you, Mao?"
The group in the distance indeed stopped their attack. The leader pondered for a moment and shouted back, "Who are you? State your name."
Lin Qian stayed hidden behind the cover and slowly raised her hands so the others could see her palms.
"Ji Dao Wan Sui."
Han Yi Mo, standing beside her, was stunned by her words.
"Pleased to meet you," the leader said casually. "Ji Dao is also one of our major clients. Give us a Hui Xiang. If you're an acquaintance, we won't bother you today."
Lin Qian nodded slowly after hearing this, then triggered a massive bell toll in the distance.
"I am Ji Fa," Lin Qian said. "Is anyone here who recognizes me?"
The moment "Ji Fa" was spoken, the faces of the group in the distance changed.
"Lin Qian of Ji Dao?" the leader asked tentatively.
"Yes."
"My apologies for the offense just now." The leader waved his hand, signaling his companions to put away their weapons. "I am Song Qi of Mao. We've met once before."
Lin Qian nodded and slowly stood up. "Pleased to meet you…"
After confirming Lin Qian's appearance, Song Qi put the stone in his hand into his pocket. "Lin Qian, our mission tonight is to blood wash Tian Tang Kou. You have my gratitude, so to avoid breaking the rules, I'll give you thirty seconds to escape. After that, I'll treat you no differently."
Lin Qian frowned slightly upon hearing this. "How much did they offer? I'm willing to outbid."
"Lin Qian, the price this time is too high—only he in the entire Zhong Yan Zhi Di can afford it." Song Qi shook his head. "Twenty-five seconds left."
"There's a very important person here—he can't die," Lin Qian refused to give up and continued persuading. "At least not now! He has the potential to destroy this place!"
Song Qi blinked, finding it a bit amusing. "Lin Qian, I remember you're from Ji Dao, right? So why are you helping outsiders destroy this place?"
"I…" Lin Qian racked her brain for a plan, feeling that there was no hope this time.
"Song Qi, I want to get out."
Song Qi shook his head helplessly after hearing this. "Five seconds left."
Lin Qian's eyes gradually filled with despair. "Song Qi, we can't lose hope—all of us here can't…"
"Three."
"Please, I'm begging you… that person really…"
"One. Sorry."
As soon as he finished speaking, Song Qi pulled a small stone from his pocket and flicked it over. The stone exploded violently upon touching Lin Qian's cheek. Before the screams could even be heard, Lin Qian's head was blown apart. Her body slumped down slowly, lying right in front of Han Yi Mo.
Staring at the unrecognizable corpse, Han Yi Mo's eyes widened in shock. What on earth was happening?!
"You're all one after another—either saviors or with hidden identities… But I'm the main character here…" He trembled all over, unable to make sense of his situation no matter how hard he tried. How could the main character face such danger without knowing anything? Shouldn't the plot unfold gradually?! Where were those seniors who were supposed to save him?! Where were those lucky encounters?!
"Feed… Lin Qian… Get up, you have a hidden identity, don't you…?" Han Yi Mo called out in panic. "People with hidden identities can't just die like that! Aren't you supposed to save me…?"
But Lin Qian had clearly lost all signs of life and couldn't stand up again.
"The one in the back, come out. No one's getting away tonight," Song Qi called out.
There was no way Han Yi Mo would come out. Even knowing he might not survive, he didn't want to walk to his death. But that person's abilities were too strange—as if anything he threw could cause an explosion…
"Explosion…?" In the midst of the tension, Han Yi Mo's mind wandered. He suddenly remembered a character from his book who triggered a massive explosion upon death, taking the enemy down with them. He started worrying that the same might happen when he died.
"Not coming out, huh?" Song Qi was cautious about Han Yi Mo, not knowing his abilities, so he stayed back and threw another small stone. He intended to destroy Han Yi Mo's hiding spot, but by some fluke, the stone slipped through the gaps in the tables and chairs and landed right beside Han Yi Mo.
"Huh?" Han Yi Mo turned his head and saw a steaming little stone next to him, instantly panicking. But before he could run, his leg was blown to a bloody mess.
"Ah!!!!!!"
A heart-wrenching scream echoed as Han Yi Mo's leg turned charred black, with blood smoking profusely.
"This isn't right!!" Han Yi Mo screamed in agony. "This isn't right!! Who can save me?! My savior… Qi Xia… Qi Xia!!"
But no one responded.
"Shut up…" Song Qi shook his head. "This state… Do you not have a Hui Xiang?" He turned and gestured to his men behind him. "Kill him."
Several men in black approached and swiftly stabbed Han Yi Mo to death.
…
Qi Xia, Qiao Jia Jin, and Li Xiang Ling hid in the teachers' office on the second floor, feeling extremely uneasy. The chaos outside seemed all too real. Just seconds earlier, they had heard someone screaming "Qi Xia" in agony.
"What on earth happened…?" Qi Xia frowned and kept peering through the door crack. "Was that Han Yi Mo…?"
"Deceiver…" Qiao Jia Jin thought for a long time before standing up. "Do you think we have much chance of surviving hiding here?"
"Less than one percent," Qi Xia replied. He knew those people would find this room eventually.
"So, I'm going to join the fight," Qiao Jia Jin took off his shirt and tossed it aside.
Li Xiang Ling was stunned. "Qiao Ge… you…"
"When the people of Tian Tang Kou are all dead, we won't have a chance to fight back," Qiao Jia Jin said. "Joining the battlefield now gives us a shot at survival."
Qi Xia knew he couldn't stop Qiao Jia Jin, so he just nodded. But Li Xiang Ling reached out and grabbed Qiao Jia Jin's arm.
"Qiao Ge… don't go…"
"Hmm?" Qiao Jia Jin turned back to look at her. "Kung Fu girl, don't worry, I've got skills."
"I have a bad feeling…" Li Xiang Ling said with tears in her eyes. "Can you stay here?"
"No…" Qiao Jia Jin shook his head. "There are still a lot of people waiting for me to protect."
He opened the door, glanced around, and before closing it, whispered, "Deceiver, Kung Fu girl, don't come out unless I knock on the door, got it?"
